ATTENTION SNOWBIRDS!!

Is the Minnesota winter already getting you down? Are you planning to vacate the area for warmer climates until spring? Well, we'd still LOVE to be your local bookstore -- even if you are in some other location that is, well, anything but "local." We recently started a program with one of our distributors that allows us to send books nearly ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD for as little as $2.50 per title. No matter where you are, call us if you need a book. We would be delighted to send it to you!

Thanks for supporting all of your local retailers. We couldn't be here without you.

Author of We Hug in the Hallways Here to speak on Monday, January 5

Roger Wenschlag, author of
We Hug in the Hallways Here, will be speaking and doing a book signing at the Bookcase on Monday, January 5 at 6:30. Being in a job and company culture that fits your behavioral style is vital for work satisfaction and happiness. Finding that fit can be bewildering. This book will help you solve this puzzle. Using the DISC behavioral style model and case studies of real people in various jobs, Wenschlag zeros in on style-based motivators and demotivators that can make or break job success. He also takes the mystery out of finding the right organizational culture, or adapting to the one you are in. No matter where you are on your career journey--college, early career, or mid-career--this book is a must-read. Throughout his career, Wenschlag has served successfully in many roles in public education, training and development, and in the U.S. Navy. Since 1989, he has operated Performance Solutions, a training business.

Nina Yasmineh to perform on Friday, January 16 - LIVE MUSIC EVENT

Locals may recognize the last name -- but not the first name. Following in her singer/songwriter mother's footsteps, Nina Yasmineh is breaking out with her own solo act, and we are delighted to be hosting her at the Bookcase on Friday, January 16 at 7:00. An up-and-coming young person on the local music scene, Nina has already released her first album, and even has her music available on iTunes.

New Mystery Lovers' Book Club to kick off on Thursday, January 22

The Bookcase is excited to announce that we will be kicking off a brand-new book club dedicated exclusively to mystery lovers! The first book being discussed is Leonie Swann's book
Three Bags Full--a witty philosophical murder mystery with a charming twist: the crack detectives are sheep determined to discover who killed their beloved shepherd. Along the way, they confront their own all-too-human struggles with guilt, misdeeds, and unrequited love. Join Bookcase mystery expert (and teacher at Blake Middle School) Nancy Hughes for this exciting new book club. No pre-registration is required. All that we ask is that those in attendance purchase their copy of Three Bags Full at the Bookcase. The Mystery Lovers' Book Club meets at 7:00 on Thursday, January 22.

Photographer to present book twenty years in the making on Antarctica

Antarctica remains largely unknown and infinitely fascinating. Stuart Klipper has traveled to Antarctica six times in twenty years to photograph this astounding body of work offering a sweeping look at this majestic continent which has lately become central to global climate change concerns. Shot in panoramic format--the only way to encompass a landscape that seems to stretch on forever--Klipper's work captures major features and surprising details: ships suspended in the frozen sea, glowing blue icebergs, vistas of endless snow, and troops of penguins. This volume's substantial size, panoramic shape, and unique vertical-opening case emphasize the grandeur of these austere and lovely photographs from the bottom of the world. Stuart Klipper will be at the Bookcase on Wednesday, January 28 at 7:30 to give a slide presentation and discussion on his book, as well as sign copies.
